How to recognise Spain in Street View
Drives on the right
Spain's regional variety — from the green north to the arid centre and the whitewashed south — gives useful sub-country clues.
At a glance
- Driving side: Right.
- Language: Spanish (ñ, inverted ¿ and ¡), with Catalan, Basque or Galician in some regions.
- Plates: EU strip; since 2000 they carry no province code.
On the road
- Kilometre markers and distinctive road-sign lettering.
- Olive groves line many roads in the south.
Landscape & architecture
- Dry meseta plateau in the interior.
- Whitewashed villages (pueblos blancos) in Andalusia; a greener, wetter north.
