How to recognise Brazil in Street View
Drives on the right
Brazil covers a huge, varied territory, so a specific guess is hard — but confirming the country is usually easy from the language and road markings.
At a glance
- Driving side: Right.
- Language: Portuguese — look for ç, ã, õ and endings like -ção.
- Plates: Grey Mercosul plates on newer cars, older all-grey plates otherwise.
On the road
- Kerbs: Kerbs are frequently painted red and white.
- Speed bumps: Very common, locally called lombadas.
- Dashed yellow centre lines on many rural roads.
Landscape & architecture
- Red-brown soil across much of the interior.
- Tropical greenery in the north; open farmland (cerrado) in the centre.
- Dense favela housing climbing hillsides in the big cities.
